In the heart of Sault Ste Marie, a punk revival is underway, spearheaded by a trio known as Vanity First. Comprising singer/bassist Andrew Beggs, drummer Keegan McAllister, and guitarist Mikhal Muto, this skate punk band has quickly become a beacon of rebellious spirit and raw energy since its inception in 2020. With the upcoming release of their first full-length album, Identity Crisis, on April 20, Vanity First firmly plants their flag in the ground, while channeling the legacy of punk titans like the Dead Kennedys and early Green Day.

Identity Crisis is more than just an album; it's a meticulously crafted homage to the pioneers of punk. Its sound and essence are a worthy addition to the genre, encapsulating the raw, unfiltered energy and social commentary that made punk music such a significant cultural phenomenon. The decision to produce the album in-house, with guitarist Mikhal Muto at the helm, was one made with a commitment to authenticity in mind. This choice has resulted in a record that not only showcases the group's writing prowess, but its energy as well. The production process was no small feat. Capturing the electrifying intensity of Vanity First's live performances required a delicate balance of rawness and precision. The end product is a testament to the band's dedication and skill, offering listeners an experience that feels both nostalgic and fresh.

The affiliation of Vanity First with MorningStar Records marks a significant milestone for both parties. As the label's first release of the 2024 calendar year, Identity Crisis sets a high standard for the year's musical offerings. The partnership is a mutually beneficial one, with Vanity First gaining the support and resources of a forward-thinking label, and MorningStar Records adding a promising punk act to its eclectic lineup. The record will be available on both CD and LP, and will be available for purchase after the April 20 release. In addition, Identity Crisis is currently available for pre-order on the label's webstore.

As the release date quickly approaches, Vanity First is gearing up for what promises to be a pivotal moment in the group's history. Identity Crisis is not just an album; it's a statement. Through their music, Vanity First confronts the complexities of identity and the societal pressures that shape it, weaving these themes into the fabric of their songs. The band's dedication to preserving the essence of punk while injecting their unique perspective is evident throughout the album. From the explosive energy of the performances to the thoughtful production, Identity Crisis is a reflection of Vanity First's journey and a glimpse into their future.
